Hacienda Misiones - Colombia - Sudan Rume - Natural
Introducing one of our favourite varieties, Sudan Rume! We're very happy to be roasting a coffee grown by Luis Fernando Lloreda at the famous Hacienda Misiones. This natural is a very layered, complex expression of this low yielding, Ethiopian landrace variety. We have notes of cherry, rose, and mango (among others).

“My journey into coffee was driven by family legacy. More than a century ago, my grandfather introduced our family to this sector, planting the roots of what today is Hacienda Misiones.”
Luis Fernando Lloreda says that: having always been connected to the agricultural sector, his vision with Misiones has been to position it as a solid, renowned company that generates dignified employment and drives rural development. He wants people to see coffee as a product crafted under the highest standards of quality and sustainability, while also inspiring future generations to believe in, and work for, coffee. He say's that at Misiones, coffee is more than a crop, it is a legacy that challenges them every day to innovate, to remain competitive, and to continue creating meaningful impact in their land and community".

Sudan Rume
“Sudan Rume is one of the genetic parents of SL-28, a variety that helped Kenyan coffee to be long regarded as some of the best in the world.”
Sudan Rume (also written as “Rume Sudan”) is an ancient landrace variety that was first cultivated in South Sudan’s Boma plateau. One of the main reasons Sudan Rume is not widely cultivated commercially is its low productivity. However, Sudan Rume has stronger resistance to Coffee Berry Disease and Coffee Leaf Rust than other Arabica strains, including Bourbon and Typica. Today, the variety is primarily cultivated by plant breeders to include in cultivars. One of its most famous descendants is SL-28. When Sudan Rume is grown commercially it is coveted for its cup quality and relative rarity.
