Yellow Nose Studio

YNS Ceramic Bowl

Created in collaboration with Yellow Nose Studio, these ceramic bowls sit between tableware and sculpture. Designed by Kai-Ming Tung and Hsin-Ying Ho (Ying), the pieces reflect their architectural background and their interest in how shape, texture and material affect the way we experience an object.

Kai and Ying created some special editions exclusively for us, evolving existing forms, experimenting with new glazes and allowing the making process to shape the final result. Each piece carries subtle variations and traces of the hand, making it distinct from the next.

The plates are made in small batches from ceramic and finished by hand, with surfaces sometimes polished using river stones before firing. This slow, physical process creates a subtle sheen and preserves small variations in texture and form; traces of the making process that give each piece its own character. Rather than trying to remove these irregularities, Yellow Nose Studio embraces them as part of the object. The result is a collection where no two pieces feel entirely identical, with the marks of touch, pressure and movement remaining visible in the finished ceramic.

Yellow Nose Studio was founded in Berlin in 2017 by Taiwanese designers Kai-Ming Tung and Hsin-Ying Ho (Ying), who both trained as architects before studying product design and scenography. Their practice moves between ceramics, furniture, installations and found materials, with a particular focus on proportion, material and the relationship between objects and the spaces around them. Their work explores the relationship between control and chance, often allowing the material and making process to influence the final form. Alongside their wider ceramic collection, Kai and Ying occasionally develop special editions for us, using these as an opportunity to experiment with new forms, surfaces and glazes.

This collaboration supports small-batch, independent production and a slower approach to making, where the process is given time to influence the final object. Rather than aiming for perfect uniformity, each plate retains subtle traces of the hand, encouraging a more personal connection with an everyday object. Through both their existing ceramic work and the special editions they develop with us, Yellow Nose Studio brings a more thoughtful approach to everyday objects. Their pieces encourage us to pay attention to the things we use every day; their weight, texture, shape and the small traces of the making process that make them feel alive.
